The Ombudsman is an independent officer of Parliament with responsibility to investigate the actions of public authorities including State Government departments, prisons, hospitals, schools and technical colleges, local governments and public universities. Acting as an impartial watchdog, their complaints assessment and investigation service is free and independent.

Having completed their Melbourne office in mid 2017, the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science were impressed with our service, the attention to detail from the Project Manager and turn around time, and proceeded to give us the opportunity to bid on their Brisbane and Sydney offices.

The specifications were drawn up by the Ombudsman’s internal design department to accommodate the Ombudsman’s key requirements from their workspace, incorporating focused work areas, partitioned office space, collaborative areas, visitor spaces and break out areas.

THE SOLUTION

Wishing to keep the design consistent with the Melbourne office, with one important alteration, they switched out fixed height desks for a sit to stand workstation – Max from Markant. Already familiar with the Markant products, the designer selected Max for its robust design.

Caddies with seat pads were added alongside the workstations to provide seating for casual conversations.

Dauphin X-Code chairs were provided to the Ombudsman to complete a trial, ensuring all staff were involved. The trial gave them the opportunity to experience the benefits of a supportive ergonomic chair with Synchro Motion, breathable fabric, a supportive backrest and broad range of adjustments to suit the individual. The trial was successful and Ombudsman selected X-Code chairs for all locations.

Turn around time was important for the Brisbane and Sydney fitouts, as a result many stock items were used for the breakout areas.

THE RESULT

Post install a complete walkthrough was conducted one on one with all staff to ensure their chairs were fitted properly and they were comfortable with the chair adjustments and the sit to stand desk adjustments.

The Ombudsman’s office were highly impressed with the service, attention to detail by the Project Managers, and the turn around time provided by utilising stocked and short lead time product.
